Lucy May Candles

About Lucy May Sensual Candles

All our candles are handcrafted in Sheffield using 100% natural and renewable soy wax, a cotton wick which promotes a clean burn and our very own recipe. We lovingly craft each product and absolutely refuse to compromise on quality.

Soy Wax

Our wax is biodegradable and vegan friendly. No animal products are used and no animal testing has been carried out in its manufacture. Our wax does not contain any Bees Wax, Palm Wax or Petroleum Wax products. Our wax is manufactured in the UK. Soy wax is created using the oils from compressed soy beans making it 100% natural and vegetable based. Soy waxes should be stored in a cool, dry location away from direct heat, sunlight and moisture.

Cotton Wicks

Our wicks are ring-spun unbleached cotton with other natural filaments for extra stability. They are designed to burn evenly with a natural soy wax and reduce sooting compared to other candles. If the room temperature is correct each wick will self-trim, however, if the wick is not short enough then trim the wick to around 5mm before lighting.

Handcrafting Our Products

Each candle is handcrafted in small batches for the highest quality products, every time. We select the exact wick size for each individual product, each candle is wicked by hand. Using our own recipe we heat the wax to an exact degree of temperature before adding in fragrance at a calculated percentage and rate. Each candle is then poured by hand before being left to cool evenly over a 24 hour period. The wicks of each product are trimmed to a length wick is ready to light and each candle is checked one last time for quality before they make their way to our customers.

Fragrance information

We use a synthetic fragrances as the quality of the product is far higher, the quality is far more consistent and our products are safer to use for a number of people as they are far less likely to cause an allergic reaction in-comparison to an essential oil fragranced product. Our fragrances are manufactured in the Uk and do not contain any harmful or toxic materials. They are of the highest quality and we specifically choose to use them for these reasons over any alternative including essential oils.

The negatives of essential oils

Essential oils change from crop to crop meaning each batch is a different strength of fragrance and inevitably we will end up have disappointed customers with a weakly scented candle.

The viscosity of each batch also changes meaning some oils will be thicker than others, this means some candles will burn too quickly and some will tunnel and not burn very well at all.

A surprising number of people are allergic to plant based fragrances and in some cases we actively recommend people do not use them such as lavender should not be used by a person who is pregnant as it can be damaging to the unborn child.
